This week we talk a lot about the recently released November patch notes, we discuss the LOTRO Lotteries, more about Fall Festival and the news with Codemasters.
Goldenstar is working on gaining reputation with the Ale Association with her Burglar and attempting to win a skeleton horse each night. Still no luck winning that mount.
Merric is now kindred with the Iron Garrison Guards and purchased the Hemorage trait. He’s attempting to tank with Guardian’s Threat stance these days.
We both ran some skimrishes and dungeons with friends helping with leveling and epic book quests.
For those interested in the “My Toes are Cold” reference in the beginning, here’s the link to the comic we are talking about from VG Cats.

Gellon of Windfola:
Hi This is Gellon (Gell-on) from the Winfola server. I love your show and listen to it all the time I am starting my own blog, The confused hobbit which can be found at theconfusedhobbit.blogspot.com I’m afraid it isn’t very good and would like some feedback on what to improve and what people would like me to talk about. again love your show.
I saw rivendell today it was AWESOME.
Major:
Hello Goldenstar and Merric!
I started playing Lotro just 1 month ago, and i love it. I will not go into too much detail, but I started a 30 day VIP Sub with the hope of getting enough TP to eventually enjoy the game for free. As the days were coming to an end i was approaching the level cap, so i got MoM and registered the 30 Day key that came with it. Sadly… The discount every F2Per’s wanted came out just 3 days after. After a long process of trying to purchase the quest packs while VIP i figured out my only option was to end my subscription (without getting 35 days of free sub time) to get the quest pack. Grudgingly i did it. (Because my whole Goal was to purchase These quest packs) My bitterness toward turbine will far outlast the time i play this game. Turbine will not receive another Penny of mine, But as i heard you mention this topic on your podcast i had to comment. All turbine needs to do is Add a Dialog Box that states “You Currently have Access to this Content already because of your Account Status, Do you wish to purchase it anyway?”. That would Fix Everyone’s problems, including the “not so bright” people who would purchase something they already have access to.
Keep up the good work, Major
P.S. I am not against the lore, i just wanted to name my character what i have been called over the last 7 years of my E-Life.
Gerald:
Merric,While watching one of your instructional videos, I noticed that you were able to have the quick slot information show up at the top of the interface.
My question is how do you get that to show up at the top of the screen?
I have searched all the options and cannot figure how to do it.
Thanking you in advance for any info,
Gerald

A note on the Venomous Blood-arrow. I was on Bullroarer earlier today and determined that the test build includes an update to the damage levels for the Venomous Blood-arrow. They no longer do one-shot damage in full fellowship and raid settings. The damage levels are now consistent throughout all group sizes. I’ve been afraid to do fellowship runs due to this issue so the update is welcome news.

Awesome! Good to note, because it was pretty crazy.

Good podcast! I agree that VIPs not being able to purchase quest packs becomes annoying for those wishing to revert to Premium afterwards. But, I can see why Turbine doesn’t allow this. If any VIP was able to purchase quest packs when they went on sale, then a VIP could slowly purchase all of the quest pack content. Then, they could drop their subscription, losing a few benefits, but still have the whole game accessible to them. It’s interesting to think that VIPs are renting the game while Premium/F2P are slowly “owning” the game with a few restrictions.
By the way, one important (to me at least) stealth change from the coming update is the reduction of the Pork Chopper TP reward from 50 TP down to 10 TP. Better get to your pork chopping while it is a 50 TP reward! Thanks to Tawariel for noting that!

Regarding Goldenstar’s trouble with the delivery quest, there is a much easier way : the quest targets also give the quests, so you can just stock up with the booze ahead of time and run round without having to head back and forth to the pubs.
But I am in europe, is this changing?

You cannot do this for the ale association unfortunately. The AA requires you to speak to the tavern keep and deliver the drink as there is no item to buy, the tavern keep gives you the item as part of the text.

Great show folks, what else can you buy with Merric points btw?

Just discovered the various LotRO podcasts and caught up on the most recent few eps of each. Great stuff… I have a quick comment in regard to the festival horse races; namely that the boardwalks are a giant fake-out designed to make you miss the upper gate. You can win both races quite comfortably (solo*) by just ignoring them and making a neat run through both water traps (lower gate)… The key is to maintain the inside line around the rest of the track by jumping cart handles, slipping between the tree trunk and fence (shire), etc.
*Can you even do group races these days? I haven’t tried.

They changed the race last year. It is just a solo quest now.

And while I’m at it, I’m a year old LotRO subscriber and was finally able to convince my brother to try it with F2P. We’ve found that Guardian/Burglar is a great duo combo with extremely high DPS and an ability to CC small mobs of 2-3 very easily.
My question regards quest packs though. He sprung for some premium points and so he’s taken packs for the Lone Lands, then North Downs and now Evendim (one of my favourite zones, and the reason I love the 30-40 period which Merric seems so down on).
I’m not quite sure where to take it from here though. He has enough points left for two more packs, and I’m personally inclined to make those Forochel and Eregion, skipping over Angmar (which I hate), Trollshaws and Misty Mountains entirely.
I don’t have any endgame experience though. Moria is so oppressive that I start new toons instead of pushing through, and none of my seven toons have broken level 60 yet. So I’m hoping I can get some feedback on how that might have long term consequences. For instance is Rivendell rep more valuable than Lossoth rep for late-game or end-game? Or does it really not matter anymore once we’re up to Volume 2/Moria, and on through to Lothlorien?
Many thanks. Stuggo and Hubbo on Gladden (level 35ish), happy to fellow up with friendly folks whenever we’re around.

If you guys are playing together I think picking the areas you know and love is the perfect solution. There’s no huge need to do Angmar, Trollshaws or MM quests. The Epic quests will be available in those areas so it will not set you back.
And if he’s a scholar he could work on Rivendell rep through that avenue. I personally cannot think of any reason that Rivendell rep is useful in an end game sort of way.

Yeah, the first time I made it to Forochel and caught that night-time aurora I had to just stand on a hilltop and take it all in for a while. I love those moments where the game design really takes me by surprise, and that’s the kind of gaming experience I want to share.
Angmar and Misty Mountains don’t have anything like that for me; and Trollshaws, while cool, is kind of the parallel leveling zone to where we are now in Evendim.
