There have been reports of login queue waits of 45 min or more for VIPs on the LOTRO servers. Why is it significant that VIPs are waiting this long? Well VIPs are to have login priority that comes with their monthly subscription fee.
To make it more clear as to what the VIPs are to expect with this login priority, Sapience has posted how the priority works:
[VIPs] would receive priority over Free and Premium players in the queue. Please note the bolded text. Once a player is logged into the world, they are no longer in the queue. We do not, and have no plans to, remove players once they have logged in. We do not boot any player, free, VIP, or Premium to allow another in.
The issue people are experiencing right now is simply due to all our new friends trying LOTRO on opening weekend. Sapience has posted that they are working to alleviate these wait times as much as they can on their end.
We know you’re having a hard time getting in and some of that is , frankly, very high demand and some of that is network work we’re doing to help increase capacity the reduce lag.
For those curious, the issues were not server related, they were network infrastructure related. Our network operations team has been on site working the problem all day and will continue to do so until we get everything dialed in.
You should be seeing queues reduced dramatically. Most should be gone by the time you read this.
I realize waiting up to an hour or more to get in to play LOTRO can be very frustrating. It’d likely be most of my playtime in fact. Hopefully Turbine’s fix is in place an helping people get back in and playing!

My problem today is just getting the launcher to work at all!

I am having the same problem Dickie is – my launcher will not work at all. LotRO and DDO will not launch. I am glad to know it’s not just me or my ‘puter having a hang up. Thanks for the heads up!
(Great website you have here – I’m a new subscriber to you).

I’m so glad you’ve found us. Welcome!

Saturday night was quite interesting with all the lag spikes and random disconnecting. It would have been frustrating if not for the fact that Lennidhren was at Mar Vanwa Tyalieva’s Welcome Concert during that time so it was actually more amusing than it was annoying, to take turns either disappearing myself or watching other people disappear or reappear.
I must’ve relaunched the game at least half a dozen times over the course of a two and a half hour concert, but I still managed to get lots of good screen shots (which I’d post if only my My.LOTRO blog hadn’t gone blank in the site restructuring too…) and had a really good time.

I think its a Turbine issue as the problems extend to DDO as well. DDO is having similar website and login issues…I subscribe to both games and the launcher is doing the same thing for both games.
Hanging at examining programs after hanging for a while on connect.

I made sure not to play on the 10th so I have not seen any wait times for the Nimrodel server. I did see some lag on Saturday but it wasn’t too bad. The store was working too.

I too have been having trouble with the launcher. Often I just get the “…” indication (which I assume means it isn’t even connecting), but sometimes I get past that to “examining programs” where it gets stuck again.

This is why I have put off joining up for a week or so, to avoid the log jam and for Turbine to work out any bugs.

Thanks Goldenstar. Yeah I fell in love with the trial of lotro and was happy that they went f2p so i can play until I’m ready to be a Viper (soon). And was/am a part of Beta.
Searching the other day for other blogs and websites of dedicated players to learn more about the game and found this site. Glad I did – very informative!
TY

Yeah, it’s kinda frustrating to say the least. But, I am in the camp that thinks it will past soon…I hope!

My friends and I experienced the extremely annoying lag spikes, game freezes, disconnects, and rubber banding on Saturday night, completely disrupting our long-held plans of exploring the new region together.
Yesterday, Sunday, my wife was able to log in after a relatively short wait. When I attempted, I was greeted with a 90 minute wait time. Apparently I had hit the server at the time when the log-ins were halted and no one else was being allowed into the game worlds. Needless to say, we went and watched a movie instead.
A few hours later we tried again, and were able to log in immediately and only experienced one instance of lag/game freeze during the couple of hours we were exploring Angmar in our alts.
Seems to me as if whatever network issues they were having were pretty much solved by yesterday evening (EST).

No queuing issues on Silverlode for my lifetime account. I did see some lag spikes on Saturday, but that’s a small price to pay for having so much interest generated in the game that I love!
September 13, 2010 at 12:21 pm
I should also add that Sunday night, I saw no lag spikes at all… so either they cleared it up, or it was just wasn’t a prime time for folks (9p – 11p, PDT).

FYI: WoW had the same problems (and some servers still do) at the initial launch as well as the start of TBC and WotLK. This isn’t new…but it is new to those who haven’t played WoW. I can certainly understand the frustration, but for VIPers (I’m a sub myself) to complain loudly that they’re paying to NOT wait in the queue is ridiculous. We pay to have priority in the queue…that’s all. As Patience says, once inside the game, you’re in. It’ll work itself all out soon enough and Turbine will probably add a new server or two to the mix and we’ll even see free server transfers in our near future.

I was trying to get into bree when the rubberbanding started for me on Saturday night, I swear I was actually going backwards! When I realized there was not much point to trying anything too strenuous at that time, I decided to craft some athelas potions and LM books and hang out in the Celondim listening to a fellow level 65 play music, handing out potions and books and answer any questions that new players had. It was a fun couple of hours!

Nice idea Urailas. I bet it was greatly appreciated.
