  1. Doyce (Geiri/Finnras) Says:

The main problem with the Focus Burn article is that it’s from the pre-Moria game, which means (a) the traits discussed don’t all work the same way (b) it doesn’t talk about the trait lines and related bonuses and synergies (c) there are a couple skills it doesn’t mention, because they didn’t exist at the time.

I talk about playing deep in the Huntsman trait line here — http://my.lotro.com/datester/2010/08/06/so-fast-the-bowstring-smokes/ — it’s similar to the Focus Burn idea in theory, though in practice it’s a more coherent beast, thanks to the Trait and Trait Line revisions since then.

      Geiri,

Have you checked your article recently? I was curious to read it and the link isn’t working for me. It goes to your LOTRO profile but just says:

“Error: An error occured while processing your request. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

I’ve been trying to read it for the past few days since catching up with this podcast and it’s given me the same error every time.

And I should mention I’ve tried it on three browsers (IE, Firefox, and Chrome). I got the same error on all three browsers for all the links and articles on your profile. I could see your characters, your friends, and that was it. Everything else returned an error message.

Listening to this right now. I traited Bowmaster 4 or 5 deep until I hit Mirkwood, then changed to mostly Huntsman for the power boosts, with the last three traited Bowmaster. I’ve also traited my hunter to be a melee fighter so she can do off-off-tank if I need to (something I’ve found necessary when I solo). My kin often kids me that I need to be reminded I’m not a tank.
Skirms – I use Bannerman because he gives morale and power boosts when I need them. The power boosts were a plus for me.
This has been fun to listen to while LOTRO is down.

Awesome, thanks Isilwren. Bannerman for everyone! (Because they’re awesome). Heck, now that I have refunded skirmish marks I might try it with the guardian.

I actually did bite the bullet and re-roll for archer (although I still need to get the advanced skills and the ultimate, so only 1 of her skills is ranked.)

pumped up to 25 for the archer, and 25 for her morale; 25s for my own ranged offense, armor penetration, and resist defenses.

started to run down to 10K skirm marks after that, so I split the remainder into 15/20′s on some of her traits (ICPR, ROff, RCrit).

I’ll keep ya’ll posted. I can say w/o a doubt the one Rift skirm I ran went alot faster, and that’s w/ just the Deadly Shot skill @ 20. Can’t wait to unlock/slot the ranged debuff attack, and both bleeds for tons-o-DOTs. :D

BTW – thank you for inviting Hataru to the roundtable. My ears perked up when I heard how long he has been a Hunter. I gained a lot of valuable information about my class that I hadn’t known before. It was fun listening to someone who is as enthusiastic about Hunter class as I am. It was a real treat!

  5. Mithlas Says:

I had to laugh a little when I listened to the part about the stances and everyone forgot about our 4th stance; Fleet.

Just goes to show how valuable it is to us :P

it is pretty ass. I’ve tried it a couple of times (improved, I mean. normal fleet is a total waste) and the only time it actually had a use (note: this doesn’t mean USEFUL, it means “it didn’t fail utterly”) was soloing vs trap/fear/root/SLOW immune mobs. And that last part is the key – most CC immune things you can still slap a S:S slow on. Fleet, however, allows you to keep focus while running a huge thing around kiting-wise. That’s why in the “improving fleet stance” threads, I’m actually a proponent of simply having it give us a boost to IN-combat movement speed. It’s the only reason to use the thing: kiting things you can’t slow.

best use of it, IMO, is soloing instance bosses, which has some interesting new practicality now that you can farm 10/20 stat tomes.

My main is Ganloth, a level 54 Elf Hunter on Vilya, and I would like to give my own skill rotation, as I missed hearing something like it during the roundtable. There’s not alot of stuff I do pre-combat (using Focus), but I may lay down the occasional trap.
I always start out with Barbed Arrow for the slow as well as DoT. Then I hit the mob with an Improved Swift Bow, and since I usually have that trait which lowers the focus cost of Penetrating Shot slotted, I let off a penetrating shot.
By this time, the mob has usually gotten into melee range, but if it hasn’t, I’ll hit it with a couple quick arrows.
I also noticed that nobody mentioned the increased crit that Scouring Blow has if the Barbed arrow bleed is on the mob. My melee rotation is usually: Scourging Blow, Blindside, then Merciful Shot to finish things off.
Anyways, thats my skill lineup, which I think focuses less on straight-up dps, and more on giving myself more time to use more skills (if that makes any sense).
Love the pocast/blog, and a shout out to the wonderful Friends of Frodo kin; now on Vilya AND Crickhollow!

I just listened to this and my favorite quotes:

    Re: Bow vs Crossbow

? Kitani: “… and a crossbow for my manhunter …”

Goldenstar: “…it is important to look good while you kill things. I understand …”

Hataru would you please just log in my hunter and fix her traits and skill line up please.
