Texborn of Landroval Asks:
I am playing my first character in LOTRO. I’m now at lvl 48 with my guardian and have acquired my first legendary items. My questions are:
1. Where should I spend my skirmish marks as I level through the 50s, outside of soldier? It looks like buy relics is best use, but wanted to make sure there wasn’t something I should be saving up for later.
2. What level is the LI weapon that you can trade for with skirmish marks? What level is the lowest crafted LI weapon?
First off, welcome to LotRO, Texborn!
Skirmish Mark Use
To be honest, I think you’ve hit the best use of marks at you level right on the head with relics. It’s good to spend them on relics at this point because they are just about the only thing that is going to be useful both now and later.
Tip: Buy several of the tier 1 “fused bronze relics” rather than saving for higher tiers as you’ll end up with better relics per mark amount… however, it does come with one drawback… you’ll spend more coin on combining relics, but coin is easier than skirmish marks to get.
Down the road there are some bigger ticket items you’ll want, but there’s no point in saving for those now as once you hit the level cap of 65 you’ll gain marks much faster especially if you do a lot of “classic” instances.
Legendary Items
The skirmish mark vendors only offer level 65 class item LIs not weapons (with the exception of Warden javelins and Hunter swords). The lowest level of craftable LIs are level 60 and the only other craft-able level is 65.
In lieu of these methods you’ll collect “rusted dwarf tools” that you can barter for level 53 and 55 third age LIs of your choosing and “Khuzdul Tablets” which can be traded for level 57 and 59 LIs.
This article is part of the “Ask Elborigorn” series, where I encourage CSTM readers to send questions to me at: elborigorn@casualstrolltomordor.com . I then will answer the question either with an entire article or as part of a multi-question weekly article.

You didn’t mention the possibility of getting LIs from reputation vendors. The higher level areas will also exchange their rep items for weapons and items.

Mainly because this was focused on a character going through their 50′s. But yes, you can get level 60+ LIs from Mirkwood and Enedwaith barters.

I really like spending extra points on Scrolls of Empowerment. If you don’t need them to tier up your weapon, they sure sell for a pretty penny on the AH.
