LOTRO_Free to Play Captain Art 8.18.10Current Subscribers and returning players will be able to access LOTRO Free-to-Play on the North American servers starting September 8th! The servers will be brought down on September 7th in preparation for the head start program. When they return on September 8th all current subscribers and returning customers will have full access to all Free-to-play features, the Volume III, Book 2 epic story, and the new Enedwaith region two full days before the official launch! You’ll also be the first gain access to our new servers and claim your name or start building your new kinship.

If you’re a returning customer, make sure you have your client installed and ready to patch up on September 8th so you can be among the first to experience LOTRO Free-to-Play. You can download the most recent LOTRO game client here.

This is a good thing I think. Let us current players enjoy the new content before all our new friends jump in. Turbine has done head starts before and it has made for very smooth launches which I assume is their goal for this launch as well.

I like the fact that they are letting us lock our names on the “new” servers. ;)

I haven’t been able to find for sure. There is a post from Faya on the EU forums saying they will have information soon.

This is good news, I was not expecting free to play until much later in September. Nothing wrong with it coming out sooner.

I would be curious to know how many plan to add alts or transfer to the new servers? I don’t think I will be going anywhere.

As for the 9/8 date, I guess that means I will really have to focus on getting my 56 burg to 65 soon. As Once the new content opens I imagine it will harder to fine groups for Moria coins…

Transfers will not be available to the new servers. The new servers will be for brand new toons only. For now anyway.

Actually, it might get easier to get groups for Moria now.

You don’t need to climb all the way to level 65 to enjoy the Moria instances. Remember they were all out when the level cap was 60 :) I don’t think you need to get all the way to 60 to go in to GS either.

Very true. I guess it is just my personal preference to bring toons that are at max. I probably should start doing em when I get to level 58, everyone loves a burg right?

I would love to play on a busy server like Landroval, maybe they will allow transfers again in the future. I guess free to play should bring more people to Nimrodel.
