LOTRO News

Marketroid announces on the official forums this morning that the Free Trial (10-days free) Program is now closed!

FreeTrialClosedAs part of the continuing preparations for our upcoming launch the LOTRO Free Trial Program has been closed.

If you are currently in the midst of your 10 free days of play you should be able to complete your trial as expected. At this time no new trial accounts will be created.

We hope those of you who have participated in the trial program have enjoyed your experience and we look forward to serving you as we transition into a new model.

Looking for a way to play LOTRO before the launch? You can still buy a copy at our online store or you may apply for a chance to participate in the ongoing beta.

Thank you to @hobbitmeister for forwarding us this info!

Another sign that it’s getting closer to live. Maybe another stress test first. I’m thinking mid September for launch.

I’m sort of surprised they have closed this so early. I’ll bet that they are now taking any and all new players into the beta. Unless they change their mind the launch can’t happen until “The Fall”, which at the earliest would be Sept. 21st, however it is looking more and more like it will launch in early Fall rather than late Fall.

Personally, it makes sense. Trial accounts arn’t going to exist anymore as soon as the new model goes live. It would confuse a lot of new players on a trial if suddenly major aspects of how the game works changes. Anyone would be puzzled if you were doing quests in the lone lands on a trial and suddenly you couldn’t do them anymore.

I am surprised that they didn’t take down the trial sooner.

There are a lot of trial accounts on the Arkenstone server. Lots of new people. Right now LotRO still costs $30 to buy. Who is going to pay $30 to try a game that will be F2P “soon”.

I can’t see Turbine going without new customers for one or two months. The whole point of F2P is new customers.

I predict F2P will happen very soon. Maybe before the kids head back to school.

I don’t know how available they are, but you can usually find a box or two in a store sometimes for $10 for Moria. Admittedly though, the last time I looked locally was several months ago.

I checked the available lotteries today on mylotro and one was called “Lottery of the not too distant future” and it was offering an “elven shadow-piercer” as the reward. I wasn’t able to find the reward in the lorebook. Is this another sign of F2P launch? Also, did anyone else think that Monday’s server downtime was unusually long? Am I reading too much into these things?
