Episode 49a: Beta Roundtable

This is our Beta Roundtable that was recorded Tuesday, August 3rd. We have with us five special beta testers who agreed on very short notice to talk about their experiences. We appreciate them taking the time to share their adventures in the beta so far.

We tried very hard to avoid major plot line spoilers for things like the epic quest line and the changes to the introduction quests. I believe we did accomplish this however if you are sensitive to spoilers and really want to be surprised when Free-To-Play launches, perhaps this is not the best thing for you to listen to.

It gets asked every roundtable so I should mention that a transcript will not be available for this show. I’m very sorry for those who prefer to read.

List of Topics:

I have broken up the chat’s main topics into an outline with a timestamp of where that information starts in case you are just interested in a piece here and there and want the rest to be a surprise. I hope this is helpful!

  • Enedwaith – Timestamp  0:02:24
  • New Class Introduction Quests – Timestamp 0:27:10

I am currently listening to the round table and just got to the bit where you are poo pooing the combat practice components. I know some people who died immediately when they played the intro years ago and it put them off the game. Don’t underestimate the complexity of LOTRO – particularly for those who will come along and have never played an MMO or a computer RPG for that matter.

You’re absolutely correct. We were a bit judgmental in our assumption that most players would know how the controls of an MMO would work. As I’ve said before I have a friend whose first MMO was DDO because it was free to play and there’s no reason why LOTRO won’t be the same for a lot of other people. So you’re right there was a good reason to put that in there and we were a bit ignorant to dismiss it as we did.

My comment came across a lot harsher than I intended. Love the podcast – I download every epidode and play it (and other Lotro podcasts) when I go for walks. Great stuff :)

My best mans wife recently started playing, and the whole idea of computer games was new to her, never mind MMO’s even more so. It really made us appreciate just how much there is to learn for someone totally new.

On the plus side, with a little assistance she is absolutely loving this foray in gaming and MMO’s so LOTRO defiantely has a new fan!

    Great Beta Podcast!
    I am excited!

I think if the General Forums in its entirety listened to you guys, there would be much less fuss.

just a quick comment on Lua scripting. There is also one called Pet Carousel for LM’s, it is similar to the port one for hunters where it has all of our pets in a neat little window that you can cycle through to pick the one you want, it even includes the cosmetic pets!!

This will get our pets out of our quick slots which is total win for all LM’s!!

During the roundtable when the guests were going over class changes, Goldenstar mentioned something about Ministrels getting to “Mentor from Horses.” What does that mean?

      Goldenstar Says:

Minstrels can train (mentor) other players so they can learn to play other instruments like bagpipes, cowbells etc. We will be able to do this action from horseback.
