Today saw the release of the last set of Beta Journals which covers the differences of class changes. This information is that actually pretty coveted when NDA’s are listed by most players; because it’s usually what affects them the most. Players wish to know if they will receive new skills, have some bug fixes, or be “nerfed” to the ground. And although the latter doesn’t seem to be happening, only a few classes are getting a lot of work while most are getting some much needed fixes.
As you can see there are quite a few changes with the classes that were covered; especially on the Captain. I hope you enjoy them, and of course we’ll be releasing our Beta Round Table soon which should supply even more Beta information!
The first perspective covers the Champion class:
- A new skill called “Fear Nothing” which removes up to 3 fear effects (level 70 or below) and grants 2 Fervour points with a 5 minute base cool-down which can be lowered to 3.5 with a new legacy.
- Rend now stacks with other Champions’ Rend effects.
- Controlled Burn makes a horn sound when it fades.
- 3 new legacies have been introduced. One that can reduce Ferocious Strikes to a maximum of 15 seconds; the previously mentioned reduction of Fear Nothing; and one that can reduce Dire Need by 10 minutes.
- Hedge will now grant an additional 15 second bonus to parry (even in Fervour).
The second perspective concerns Captains:
- New armament recipes have been added for Tier 5 and Tier 6 tailors.
- A new level 1 melee skill has been added.
- Precise Ally and Loyalty have been moved from Leader of Men to Lead the Charge.
- Adherent of Elendil and Intimidation have been moved from Lead the Charge to Leader of Men.
- Lead the Charge’s 4 trait bonus (Grave Wound will force your target to attack you for a limited time) was moved to Leader of Men and had an additional +5% critical bonus added to it as well.
- Lead the Charge’s capstone legendary now has the ghost herald instead of the Leader of Men’s capstone.
- Shadow’s Lament is now a standard skill.
- Many threat increases currently in Lead the Charge’s capstone have been moved to Leader of Men’s new capstone.
- Leader of Men has had it’s 3 trait line bonus to Shield-brother replaced with the Kick fellowship maneuver trait line bonus.
- The Leader of Men four trait bonus is now Lead the Charge’s previously mentioned Grave Wound forced taunt.
- The Leader of Men capstone now has the increased threat from Noble Mark and allows for the Captain to share diminished Shield Brother buffs with the entire fellowship.
- Hands of Healing remains unchanged.
Next comes a look at Hunters:
- Blood Arrow, a new level 44 ranged skill costing 3 Focus, has been given to Hunters; and requires 0 power. Instead it costs 5% of your maximum morale (which is dynamic, depending on your buffs/armour) and has a 10 second cool-down.
- Dazing Blow, a new level 48 melee skill, not only damages the target but dazes the target for 5 seconds and has a 1 minute cool-down.
- At level 52 Dazing Blow can be upgraded to additionally remove 3 corruptions.
- Blindside can now interrupt the targeted mob.
The last journal takes a look at Lore-masters
- Raven-lore and Sign of Battle: Wizardy are now some of the first starting skills a Lore-master receives.
- Inner Flame now comes at level four, and Sign of the Wild: Rage comes four levels earlier (level 4).
- Test of Will now comes at level 6 (previously 26).
- Gust of Wind is now a level 8 skill and is now Frost Damage instead of Common.

I was really hoping for some new frost based skills for the RK. Guess that will have to wait for the next big expansion.
August 9, 2010 at 9:17 pm
Yeah, not a lot for RK’s in the beta. They’re a great class, but yeah I think it would have only have been fair to give them a frost spell or two.

Never any guardian love.
August 10, 2010 at 8:07 am
Well, the issue with this journal is that it doesn’t cover all the classes. Some of the Guardian changes:
Trait “heart of fire” also gives +520 to all crit defense ratings.
New lvl 44 skill, wound removal, up to 3 wounds, 5 min cd.
Litany of Defiance can now be used without a weapon, being silenced you can not use it.
Protection has a 10 meter range for receiving B/P response

Cool!
Looks like these are positive changes (though I’m not sure, don’t play these classes too much). I’m very much looking forward to the Burglar update.

Looks like they took away the hunter standing as DPS king, and tried to make them a Melee class
August 11, 2010 at 2:28 pm
I think you mean, besides being DPS king, they present even less reason to bring a burg or champ in raid content. Assuming current trends continue (corruption-heavy, no AOE dps scenario, crowd-control and fellowship maneuvers obliterated). Now the premiere MMO class can do the remaining tasks champions and burgs had remaining. LOTRO trinity: Tank, healers, ranged dps. Welfare slots for a captain or loremaster for buffs and debuffs.
I’m looking forward to the increases in support and dps capabilities that Turbine surely has lined up for burgs to offset this enroachment. /sarcasm off.

I can’t wait to see the burglar journal. It should be pretty short *pouts*

Hunter changes looks great, interrupts and corruption removal is very needed. And new skills are always fun
