Answering LOTRO Store Questions

August 19, 2010

LOTRO News

Sapience and other Turbine folks went on a spree answering some questions people are having about the workings of the LOTRO Store and I thought it would be worth while to compile them all here for your information.

Turbine Points from Reputation Retroactive?

There is no retroactive points granted for deeds completed prior to free to play launch. However, there are NEW Deeds in the V3B2 update that are based on your reputation with various factions. These NEW Deeds will offer Turbine Points upon completion. Any player who has met the reputation requirements for these NEW deeds will have the deeds autocomplete and any rewards, including Turbine Points, automatically granted to their accounts. [source]

When will the VIP monthly 500 points be granted?

All VIP points are granted within 2 days of the monthly anniversary/payment for all players. For monthly subscribers, this is within 2 days of the payment. For all multi-month (including Lifetime) subscribers, this is within 2 days of the monthly anniversary. Points are always granted after the payment or anniversary.

So if you have a 3 month subscription plan, and you were last billed on 8/15, you’ll receive monthly VIP points within 2 days of the 15th of each month while you are active. (September 15th, October 15th, etc). [source]

When will the Loyalty Rewards for subscribers be granted?

All of the loyalty rewards should be in your account within a week after launch. They may not show up on the same day for everyone because there are a lot of accounts to process. [source]

Differences between buying vault space vs shared storage/wardrobe space.

Shared Storage is shared across all characters on the same server under the same subscription. So if you have 5 characters on Elendilmir, all 5 can access that storage. By the way, the Wardrobe works the same way

Vault or bank space is per character. Only the character that was logged in when you purchased the extra storage will have access to it. [source]

Images of Cosmetic Items in the Store

we were looking at various ways to get images of the cosmetic items into the store. Whether that be through improved icons (which has already happened for many items) or through screenshots that we can link to from the store. Our hope is to have some form of preview available for launch (it’s actually a lot more difficult than you’d expect) or as soon after as possible. Even if that means just having a link to the lorebook (which I believe beta testers have already seen tested in the store recently). [source]

Just to add my two cents here, I’m glad they’re listening to us beta testers and see the need for the images of cosmetic items!

What is the max number of characters we can have per server?

… the end result is a cap at 17 characters per account per server. [source]

I suggest you check out the post. The number of purchasable character slots will vary based on what you already own. For me as a VIP with moria and an adventurer’s pack (9 character slots) I would be able to purchase 8 character slots from the store before maxing out.

Another interesting tidbit of news Sapience pointed out today is that free players will be allowed two character slots instead of just the one. [source]

I am no longer mad about the “faction mount issue” but would like to know if they are still going to sell them with no rep requirements. I guess we may have to wait until launch day to find out.

Last time I checked, it looked like the mount prices went up. I’m guessing it will be faster to grind rep tokens for the rep mounts rather than grind TP. This of course won’t stop anyone with a CC which doesn’t really surprise me since $money$ always seems to trump ethics these days.

I’ll just be glad to have the game get back to some semblance of normal and an end to most of the redundant questions about F2P by those too lazy to read the forums.

They are pretty darn expensive, that’s for sure. But yeah, there will be people who purchase them. For me, I think in the long run it will be more beneficial to grind the faction especially if they ever get to the faction revamps Orion alluded to before the Lone-lands revamp.

Oh, and as of the last beta patch, they still had no rep requirements. However, Sapience has stated that there will most likely be changes and fixes that will go into the final release that will not make it to the beta testing. So it still could change, but I would guess that it won’t.

I sort of got over being mad about the faction mounts too. That was the one thing in the store that set me off, but hey, if that’s the worst thing that FtP brings, then I’m happy.

“The last time I checked, Theoden, and not Aragorn was king of Rohan” ;-)

And being king of the mounts, I think its fair to be able to buy them at any level, like the Ettenmoor black horse is now, but you wont be able to ride it (use the mount-token) until you got the right requirements. So as a lvl50 you could run buy all the horse, clogging up the bags. but you wont be able to transfer them into the mount-tab unless you gain the reputation, pvp-rank, expansionpack or other requirements
