the little red mailbox looks completely out of place near that house in #4!

Bah, I haven’t even noticed it the first time.
They are nice, I’m a bit curious about those black stringy thingies – smoke, little tornadoes, something else?

was wondering the same thing.

I like.

Very pretty.. I like the sense of perpetual “Its going to rain” in Enedwaith. Hope it stays like that.

Wow! am I looking forward to this!

I did not know that hobbits lived outside the shire and breeland. Seems a far ways afield for a furry footed family.

Shire isn’t the Hobbits’ place of origin. Hobbits come from an area near Gladden Fields (that’s further north from Lórien alongside Anduin) later – probably when Sauron established himself in Greenwood (turning it into Mirkwood, ca. 1000 T.A.) – they moved south along the Misty Mountains and then turned north through Enedwaith and Eriador finally establishing Shire in 1601 T.A. Of course some Hobbits settled down before the “end of the journey” hence this village.

Been a long time since I have read the tomes…Thanks for the thoughtful response.

It will be great to explore a new zone with wide open spaces that I can actually see. Mirkwood was so dark I tended to ride my horse off the cliffs near Dol Guldor.

@CelOOKIE: Re. A mail box in Enedwaith…. The Postal service in Middle Earth is just awesome. “Neither Orc nor Troll nor Warg nor Gloom or Dread stays these couriers….”
Wonder if any hobbits were stamp-collectors? Hey – a new hobby idea! (More exciting than fishing…)
@Dreadhed: Re. Hobbits outside the shire; my copy of TLOTR says (in the prologue) “[The Stoors] …. long dwelt between Tharbad and the borders of Dunland…”. Seems that some hobbits must have stayed on. Glad that Turbine read this and worked with it. Wonder if these southern Enedwaith halflings eat pies?

What are those black, tornadoey things in shots 3 and 5?
Chimney smoke, maybe?
