So you’re looking for a house eh? First know that two type of houses are available to individual player, the standard and the deluxe format. Here’s the breakdown of the differences between the two.

After deciding which type of house you want to buy, a crucial question remains: Where?
Here is some useful information about the homesteads of Middle Earth to help you make that choice. Note that you will receive a new skill, Return to Personal House, that will allow you to quickly go back to your home once per hour. This skill will be learned by all your characters on the server you purchased your house. Furthermore, you will receive a 10% discount on all transactions with the vendors of the homestead you are living in.
In every homestead you will find a Vault-Keeper, an Escrow Broker, a Supplier and Provisioner, a Healer, a Housing Furnisher, a Skirmish Bard and a Skirmish Trainer. They are usually located in the town center, along with a nearby reception area. Homesteads Housing Furnishers all sell different items, so be sure to visit them in all four homesteads. Main differences between homesteads, apart from the scenery, are their proximity to a main city and of course the houses themselves. From closest to more distant to a major city we have: Thorin’s Hall, the Shire, Bree-land and Falathorn Homesteads. As for the houses, the floor plan, the number of hooks and their locations as well as the general look of the house vary greatly. However all houses of the same type (Deluxe, Standard or Kinhall) in one homesteads will be the same. The location of the yard hooks may vary from address to address, but their number remains the same. Finally, all addresses in a given homestead will be the same as well, none withstanding the neighborhood you are in. Neighborhoods are like instances, multiple copies of the same homestead, so a great number of people can live in Middle-Earth.
The following videos present you with a view of the houses in decoration mode, which means you will see the location of the hooks in the form of blue boxes in the house. This is where you will be able to place your furniture and other decoration items. It has to be activated and cannot be previewed when visiting a house through the Housing Broker.

I remember when I first got my house I was totally sure I wasn’t interested in Thorin’s Hall.
Eventually I saw it, since a Kinship was in there. It’s really awesome. I’d probably go that route next time.

I love the videos, Kia! But one little question… Where is the ceiling hook in the Elven Deluxe house? I’ve never been able to located it.

It’s time for me to start hitting Kia up for a redecoration of my deluxe house in the Shire, since I have no idea what I’m doing in there.

Harp – you can put a chandelier in the upper room. Unfortuneatly, after you put it up there, the ceiling is so high you will never see it. I made an Elven star chandelier for that spot and was so disappointed that it was practically invisible. Chandeliers work well on rooms with low ceilings – which pretty much rules the Elven houses out.

This is a great survey article. I just wanted to point out that the discount in housing is not a flat rate. Instead, it’s 10% if you own a standard house there, 15% if it is your kin neighborhood, and 20% if you own a deluxe house in that neighborhood.
