For all the players currently subscribed (or lifetime members) to the game and remain subscribed until the launch of Free to Play later this fall, there will be some loyalty rewards in the form of additional Turbine Points.
Basic Qualifications
- You must have an active subscription in good standing
- You must maintain a paid subscription from June 30th until the launch of Free to Play.
Lifetime Members have the added qualification
- You must have at least one active play session per month during the June 30th – Launch timeframe.
Subscribers following these guidelines can earn the following:
- 500 Turbine Points for each completed calendar month you stay subscribed. This limited point grant starts on June, 1st 2010 and continues until the first day of the month that LOTRO Free-to-Play becomes available to the general public (“Launches”).
- An additional 500 points for every anniversary you’ve seen for a max of 1500 points. LOTRO launched April 24, 2007 so if you started at launch you would be at 3 years (3*500 = 1500).
- Founders earn an additional 500 points. If you were one of the early players who preordered and got in to play early you are a founder and get a bonus for that!
- Lifetime members receive an additional 1,000 points. If you own a lifetime membership on your account you earn this bonus!
One thing I think is important to note:
Turbine Points are not transferrable, so Turbine Points purchased in the DDO Store cannot be transferred to the LOTRO Store or vice versa.
Quick Example
In my case, I’m both a lifetime member and a founder that started at launch. Lets assume the Free to Play Launches in September (I’m completely making that up by the way if I knew I’d tell you!) that means I will be receiving the following bonus points.
- 500 points * 3 Months of active subscription = 1,500
- 1,500 points for seeing 3 anniversaries
- 500 points for being a founder
- 1,000 points for being a lifer
Grand total = 4,500 bonus Turbine Points.
And I’d only earn more points if it launched later than September! I hope I get selected for beta so I can peek at the store and plan my point spending ahead of time!

So what do these points get you, I wonder?

We don’t know exactly yet. The beta testers will be able to see the store but from what I’ve read those not in beta won’t see it until launch!
I’m totally going to blow it all on cosmetics I’m sure!
Here’s what the official news of what the store will contain:
The LOTRO Store will be loaded with thousands of convenience items as well as expansion packs, premium content, additional character slots, potions, character customisation and more!

I’m using the DDO store as a guildline for what will be available and the cost structures. Sure there will be some differences but I think in general it will be close.

A few things we know we can buy are additional “wardrobe” slots (which should make Goldenstar happy) and additional shared storage slots. I think I also read we can buy addition toon slots on each server, up to 11.

The extra characters might make Merric happy!

Define ‘active play session’
June 6, 2010 at 2:03 pm
Active play session simply means you need to login at least once a month.

The site said that I could hav 7 character slots with vip, is that per server? I have most of mine on FF but some toons elsewhere. Should I delete those before they do the switch because they may delete some of mine if I don’t do the choosing? Any thoughts?
June 4, 2010 at 11:38 pm
If you remain a subscriber you do not have to delete anything. It is 7 per server, if you have the adventurers pack it will be 9 per server. Any access you have now you get to keep as a VIP member.

I have to say that I’m still mixed on this, but I feel they’re treating us old players well. We get to keep what we have and get free points for more stuff… I’ll live.

Thank you for the run down on the loyalty rewards this was very useful.

Logging in?! I’m sorry, I can’t do that Dave.
yeah, I’ll blow it all on cosmetics. Glad I got a Lifetime when I did. I hope there will be a PvP adjustment with VIPs only.
