On March 26th, 2010 PAX East hit Boston. We were there hoping and praying for that an announcement would be made about a new expansion, like what happened at PAX Prime and the announcement of Siege of Mirkwood. Although no official announcement was made, Adam Mersky (Director of Communications at Turbine) may have given us one after all!
This video surfaced on the 5th of May on GameSharkVideo’s youtube channel and was titled “Interview with LOTRO”. I don’t think they knew what that had on their hands or this would have surfaced a little faster!
Listen for just the first minute. At 56 seconds Adam very quickly states (so listen closely!),
“… our next big region will be Enedwaith later this year.”
A while back there was an interesting post on the LOTRO Forums by Galahadur, pointing out interesting additions to the Lorebook map as well as a Finnish game magazine article in which Turbine’s LOTRO Producer Jeffery Steffel says the new expansion will start with an E!
What is interesting is that Enedwaith is even listed as a region on the in-game map as far back as the Mines of Moria expansion!
For more information about Enedwaith keep an eye out for my next post on the region, its Lore and continued speculation on what is in store for this new unannounced expansion!

Very interesting… That would be a further departure from the route of the fellowship. But I guess like Forochel or Angmar, we are adventurers in ME and are not on the same linear path as those of the books. More so an exploration of ME. Very Cool. Eagerly awaiting the next content land expansion…

That is cool I really need another expansion to get my alts further behind ;-p So did anyone else think that Jeffery Steffel sounds like Brad Garrett?

Nice! I hope it comes soon.

I’m betting it’s the next free content update. Looks too small to be a whole expansion. That and how he said next “region” which has usually meant content update in the past. Here’s hoping!

I must admit I was expecting a chunk of the brown lands, crossing the anduin, including the field of celebrant, the wold and maybe even a bit of fangorn, ready for a huge rohan expansion, but I guess you are going to help the travelling rangers head to the gap of rohan if this is the case, which is also pretty damn cool!
The more of middle earth we get to see the better!

No one should ever trust anything Jeffery Steffel says. Ever. After MoM you’d think we’d learn.
Not saying it’s not true, just that no one should give weight to any announcements because Steffel confirms or denies them.

Enedwaith seems likely given how Volume 3 Book 1 ends with you gathering the Grey Company, I’d guess the next step is to travel with them south to meet with Aragorn rather than continuing to follow all the fellowship.

I hope the next update will bring some fixes to the game that are very necessary (imho). I’m looking forward to exploring a new region, but to keep enjoying the game after the exploration is done, more is necessary. Personally I hope that Legendary Items get a major overhaul, the system (while the concept of having legendary items is great), causes nothing but frustration for me.

I hope they include the abandoned city of Tharbad in the initial Enedwaith expansion or as a further free expansion later on.
I think lotro is an under-appreciated gem.
