Spring Festival 2010 Quest Guide

March 24, 2010

Events, Festival Guides, Guides

Spring has arrived and 2010 has some new events in store for the Spring Festival. This guide is here to help you discover all the fun to be had and help you earn those seasonal goodies!

The main bartering item for this event are called Spring Leaf. The quests to earn these tokens are repeatable so you can in fact earn enough tokens to get all the goodies the festival offers (granted you have enough time).

There is a deed called “Spring is Dandy” for most of these quests and completing them all will grant you the title of “Spring Dandy”.

Completing some quests can result in getting Secret Admirer Packages in the mail for extra surprise goodies.

The quests are mostly broken up into four major regions in Middle Earth:

What is not included in this guide
The festivals of Middle Earth include certain quests that appear with each and every festival. This would include the dance quests and the Inn League quests. Please see our guide on these General Festival Quests for help with those events.

Horse Race

horse-raceThe festival race is no longer a race against your peers. It is now a solo race against the clock but it has a few twists in it to be sure. The rules are to run through each gate without falling off before time runs out. It’s sort of similar to the level 35 riding skill quest but it has it’s own challenges. This quest is for level 30+. You do not need to own a horse already, the limit is just level based.

There is a quest that can be obtained from the starting areas worth 1 Spring Leaf called “To the Horse-Races” that just point you to the Race-Masters. But a leaf is a leaf right?

The race can be entered at any of the following Race-Masters.

Running through the mud slows you down although I have to say that trying to run across the precarious planks is difficult when you’re feeling rushed! It’s worth it to not hit the mud as it will slow your mount down by 30%. Crossing along the planks successfully provides a speed boost. It may take some practice before you can win this one so don’t get discouraged if you fail at first.

raceslowedLosing the race will prevent you from of attempting again for an hour. The two horse races are independent of each other so if you fail in the Shire, you can still go to Bree and attempt the course there.

Winning will grant you a choice of tokens or a Springfest Race Token. You will need the race token if you wish to purchase yourself the Spring Horse or Pony otherwise feel free to take the extra tokens to buy more stuff!

Even after you have successfully completed the race and purchased your new mount, you can come back and do it daily for extra tokens.

Buying your Spring Horse or Pony

To get your Spring Mount take the Springfest Race Token, 12 Spring Leaves and 1 Document of Mount Ownership to Will Peartree at Hengstacer Farms in Bree-land. Barter these items for your new mount.

The Document of Mount Ownership is purchased from Will Peartree. If this is your first mount, this document will cost you 4 gold (same as buying a normal mount for the first time). If you already own a mount (founders or bree starter mount doesn’t count) you will have a discount and will buy this document for 1.6 gold.

New Spring Festival Horse – Blue Roan

Will Peartree is a festival only vendor and will not be around once Spring ends! See our post on Festival Mount Changes for more information.

The Volume 3 Book 1 patch brought with it the change that you will now get credit for passing the gate for going UNDER the bridge on the racetrack. Before you had to go through the lower gate if you fell off the bridge no matter where you landed.

Thorin’s Hall Quests – Ale Association

The Ale Association’s barter currency of Badge of Dishonour can be traded in with the dwarfs standing next to Jónar in the underground tavern. There is an acquaintance and a kindred vendor.

At acquaintance with the Ale Association (AA) you can turn in your badges for festival tokens. 1 badge = 3 tokens. Thanks to Mordor or Bust, I now know that at kindred you are able to turn in your badges for a Horse Run Token for one of the festival mounts. So if you just can’t seem to get that race down, there’s an alternative for you. 10 badges will earn you a race token.

Doing Ale Association quests does not affect your Inn League reputation. You can do quests for both without an issue. This is changing with the 3.1.1 patch!

Use the Enormous Boots to stop the Enormous Shrew (Only one of these spawn per round, so only one player can accomplish this per round.)  Will not fail this quest if not done in one round. Can keep it in your log until you actually find and kill that big bugger of a shrew.

boots After accepting your quest, you need to go pick up your Boots of Quite-Imaginable Power from nearby crates. You must pick up the boots each time. You do not have to put them on your feet but you will need to put them in your action bar so you can use them.

When the game starts you must target and stomp nearby shrews for credit . For the challenge you will also need to plant the seedlings while stomping shrews to oblivion.

DocHoliday has some videos of shrew stomping he put together for those curious to see.

After placing your brew and talking to Sigismond again you’re instructed to go visit Tobias Brockhouse (27.24S, 67.25W) east of Brockenborings. He’s standing on a little stage.

Bullroarer’s Challenge
Fence WalkingQuest Giver: Tobias Brockhouse (27.24S, 67.25W)

Also if you’re curious as to what the Greenfields Hat looks like, Sigismond is wearing one. The clover patch looks exactly like the patches you picked up off the ground. I went with the tankard myself!

There is also the “Bullroarer’s Challenge – Advanced” quest which is the same except you must cross the fence in under 20 seconds! The rewards for this version are a choice of Inn League Keg or Bullroarer’s Brew (x10).

By any chance, do you know if we have to keep each of the pages we get from the biscuits until we’ve completed the deed, or if we can delete them once we get credit for them in our deed logs? That’s a ton of pages to keep if we can’t delete them as we go.

Oh, and thanks so much for the guide. Saw a couple of things I’d forgotten about. :)

    • Bryandt Says:

Not only do you not have to keep them, you can trade them to other players for pages you don’t yet have. That’s right, they’re tradeable and they count toward the deed if you acquire them that way.

  2. madmickel Says:

    Great guide !
but how long will the festival last ? ?

    • Bryandt Says:

It will last roughly a month.

Used to be that festivals only lasted about a week. And then something would break and Turbine would extend the time.

It seems they’ve thrown that out the window and just decided to keep the festival quests up for a month. Which is fine by me. More time to gather items and work on Inn League rep.

This one is going until April 19th so you have a while to do it all :)

I was kind of disappointed that the Spring Adventurer’s Backpack is exactly the same as an existing Warden cosmetic backpack… but at least it’s easy to get.

I’m glad all of the old stuff is back to do, though. I liked Bullroarer’s Challenge and, honestly, I love the way the horse races are set up now. They’re just more fun and actually encourage you to stay on the track.

    • Avatar of Merric
      Merric Says:

Yeah, I didn’t really like that either. Also, it looks like the woodsman backpack (haven’t made one yet) looks like it might be the same as the Forester’s pack. Ah well…

  4. Treb Says:

hm, that document of mount ownership only cost me 4s….

  5. Ordnance of Windfola Says:

Than you so much for posting this. I was getting frustrated last night just trying to find the events. I am unfamiliar with most of the starter regions, except Breeland. I did manage to stomp some shrews last night though!

  6. Lvya Says:

    Hello
does anyone know if a black corsair eyepatch is offered in a giftbox for the 2010 spring festival?
    Thanks

    • Avatar of Goldenstar
      Goldenstar Says:

I have not run across it yet but last year it was for sure part of the gift boxes in the flower quests of Bree. You may want to start there. Only other alternative is wait for Pirates Day in September as there were eye patches and pirate hats galore that day.

    • Bex Says:

I just got a black corsair eyepatch in a gift box, so consider it confirmed!

  7. Dreadhed Says:

Wow. good job on the overview!

  8. Blue Kae/Brynulf Says:

The new spring festival horse looks awesome, especially the name! Must own one, if only that drunken stable hand would show back up.

    • Avatar of Merric
      Merric Says:

Yeah, as of now he’s still down… They have to be working hard to find out why he’s selling it for such a low, low price. I wondered why someone had posted a pic yesterday saying it cost them 4 silver…

  9. jdw Says:

    Aw, darn. You beat me.

At any rate, while The Brasse’s map has artistic value, mine has all of the goodies mapped out: http://lotrovault.ign.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=42

    Good job, guys. :)

  10. Rharan Says:

Thanks so much for putting this together, Goldenstar.

Got my horse token tonight – for the blue roan horse. The guild chat comment was “Rharan got roan. Say that 5 times fast”. :-)

  11. Relleth Says:

Thanks for the guide you two! :)

  12. Tony Says:

Has anyone found out what D.R.A.G.O.N. actually does?

    • Avatar of Goldenstar
      Goldenstar Says:

Veneration just explained it to me like this:

Target someone and then drink a D.R.A.G.O.N. and watch as they are burst into flames and a fire dragon animation happens.

  13. Fionnuala Says:

Can I just say, you guys rock!
