| This guide is to assist with the general quests that appear with each festival in LOTRO. These quests are not really tied with a particular festival and are there just as little extras to pick up goodies for your character.See the links to the right to find the guide about the quests available during a specific festival. |
|
The generic festival quests you will find center around five things.
- The Inn League
- Ale Association
- Horse Races
- Dancing Quests
- Travelling Farmer
This guide will be split up into these three separate headings to discuss things to do and what is rewarded for each.
THE INN LEAGUE
Due to the amount of new items added to the Inn League, this information has been moved to its own guide!
ALE ASSOCIATION
Due to the growth and amount of things to do with the Ale Association, this information has been moved to its own guide!
HORSE RACES
The festival race is no longer a race against your peers. It is now a solo race against the clock but it has a few twists in it to be sure. The rules are to run through each gate without falling off before time runs out. It’s sort of similar to the level 20 riding skill quest but it has it’s own challenges. This quest requires you to have the Riding Trait (either through level 20 quest or buy it in the store). There is a quest that can be obtained from the starting areas called “To the Horse-Races” that just point you to the Race-Masters. The race can be entered at any of the following Race-Masters.
- Sally Threshing (24.9S, 52.0W Breeland)
- Carl Proudfoot (35.3S, 73.1W Shire)
The Race
Running through the mud slows you down although I have to say that trying to run across the precarious planks is difficult when you’re feeling rushed! It’s worth it to not hit the mud as it will slow your mount down by 30%. Crossing along the planks successfully provides a speed boost. It may take some practice before you can win this one so don’t get discouraged if you fail at first.
Losing the race will prevent you from of attempting again for an hour. The two horse races are independent of each other so if you fail in the Shire, you can still go to Bree and attempt the course there.
Winning will grant you a choice of 3 festival tokens or a Race Token for that particular festival (Summer, Spring, etc). You will need the race token if you wish to purchase yourself the Horse or Pony otherwise feel free to take the extra tokens to buy more stuff!
Even after you have successfully completed the race and purchased your new mount, you can come back and do it daily for extra tokens.
Note that kindred vendors for the Inn League and Ale Association sell race tokens for each of the festivals. If you have difficulty completing this quest, that is an alternative to earning the race token.
Buying your Horse or Pony
To get your mount take the Race Token, 20 festival tokens and 1 Document of Mount Ownership to Will Peartree at Hengstacer Farms in Bree-land. Barter these items for your new mount. The Document of Mount Ownership is purchased from Will Peartree.
If this is your first mount, this document will cost you 500 silver. If you already own a mount (founders, bree starter mount or store purchased mounts do not count) you will have a discount and will buy this document for 200 silver.
Will Peartree is a festival only vendor and will not be around once the festival ends! You will not be able to buy other festival horses, Will only sells that festival’s mount. See our post on Festival Mount Changes for more information. The Volume 3 Book 1 patch brought with it the change that you will now get credit for passing the gate for going UNDER the bridge on the racetrack. Before you had to go through the lower gate if you fell off the bridge no matter where you landed.
DANCING QUESTS
These quests will grant you new emote commands to eight new dances for your character. Each of the four races has two dances for you to learn. They will be found in the festival area where all the other festival goings-on are happening. Those are:
- Bree Festival Grounds (24.7S, 51.6W Bree-land)
- Thorin’s Hall (13.48S, 103.2W Thorin’s Gate) – in the underground Tavern
- Duillond (24.6S, 93.1W Ered Luin)
- Shire Party Tree (29.85S, 71.48W Shire)
You are looking for a NPC that has the title “Dance Leader” over their head. They shouldn’t be difficult to find. They are typically right in the middle of the festival grounds. Every twenty minutes the Dance Leader will start a dance lesson. Important things to know about doing this quest:
- The quest will become available 5 minutes before the lesson begins. The leader will have no quest ring over his head otherwise.
- You must have the quest before the lessons starts! Once the dance leader starts the quest, there is no picking it up.
- Once you have the quest, you must stay around the dance leader. Leaving the dance area will cause the quest to fail!
- You must have the Dance Leader targeted during the lesson or your steps won’t count.
The NPC will announce when the dance is to being and will walk to the dance area. They will give a series of dance moves to perform and you must perform them quickly, like within a few seconds. If you miss a step you fail the lesson (and the quest). The lesson is broken up into 4 parts. Between parts the Dance Leader will announce a break. The Dance Leader will call out a dance move to do. The commands you use is /dance1, dance2, or /dance3. The quest will go in this order.
- /dance1
- Break
- /dance2, /dance3
- Break
- /dance2, /dance2, /dance3
- Break
- /dance3, /dance1, /dance3
The last part seems to go much faster than the rest, at least to me, so you must be prepared. Some people make shortcuts or aliases to help them. I did all these dances by pre-typing: /dance and then waiting for them to say 1, 2 or 3 and adding it to the end. However, you wish to do it is the right way if it means you complete the quest! When finished, the Dance Leader will return to their original location and allow you to turn in the quest and select which of the two dances you wish to learn first. Your character will be granted access to a new emote slash command.
| Dances with Men | /dance_man /dance_man2 |
| Dances with Dwarves | /dance_dwarf /dance_dwarf2 |
| Dances with Elves | /dance_elf /dance_elf2 |
| Dances with Hobbits | /dance_hobbit /dance_hobbit2 |
If you fail the quest, you can try again but there will be a cool down before you can attempt the quest again. I’ve heard that if you don’t have either of the special dances from that Dance Leader, you can try again at the next lesson with no cool down.
TRAVELLING FARMER
Amabel Redfern, the travelling farmer, will appear with the summer and fall festival and is found in the Shire. You must be a farmer to get these quests. This starts with the Summer Festival where Amabel will give you the quest “Planting the Seeds for Harvest”. She will hand you some special seeds that she wants you to plant in her nearby field. Then you wait until the Fall Festival where Amabel will return to the Shire and will have the quest “Harvesting the Crop”. This quest simply has you talk to Amabel who will tell you how well your seeds grew. As a reward you will receive a Black Mushroom Pot, a housing decoration.

Great write up guys!

I’ve been playing since beta, and I still have yet to do the Inn League quest on ANY character. Maybe I should!

Awesome guide! This is going to be very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I can confirm that you do need at least riding skill (though don’t know about having a horse) to take part in the races. I don’t have the skill, and cannot get any of the required quests (NPCs don’t even show as having them available, nothing happens when I talk to them).

Quick question: I purchased the basic mount through the LotRO store (have riding skill and mount in skill book). However, when I open dialogue with Will, the Document of Mount Ownership still costs 4G. Do mounts purchased in the LotRO store not count towards the discount?
October 26, 2010 at 4:48 pm
From what I’m able to find that is correct. The trait granting you a discount on all other mounts is only applied to your character after purchasing a common mount sold by Eogar, Son of Hadorgar in-game.
To get around that 4 gold price shocker there is the alternative of buying a common mount from Eogar for 500 silver. That will give you the discount trait and drop the cost of the festival mount to 1.6 gold. Will cost you 2.1 gold total to buy that festival mount but it is cheaper than 4 gold.

Thanks for the quick response, and thanks for the excellent write-up. Bummer about the answer…
Could be a lot worse though!

I just wanted to update you about Inn League/Ale Association Quests.
It seems like Ailward Chubb no longer gives the Covert Reparations quest. Instead, this chain has been split into four parts:
Covert Reparations I: Get candy for Oli (Thorin’s Hall tavern).
Covert Reparations II: Do tricks for Kópur (Nogolond).
Covert Reparations III: Make a card for Grímar (Gondomon).
Covert Reparations IV: Pick flowers for Herluf (Needlehole).
Actually, you have to talk to an NPC standing near each of the dwarves. Each quest gives +900/-500 reputation (in favor of Inn League)
You cannot do both “An Irritating Initiation” and any of the Covert Reparations quests at the same time.
“An Irritating Initiation” continues to be a 4-leg quest which grants +900/-500 reputation in favor of the Ale Association.
This change goes a long way towards balancing the rep quests for the two factions: There are now 5 Ale Association quests (An Irriating Initiation, Draught Drought, Tainted Mug, Inn League Disaster, and Jonar’s Special Brew) and 4 Inn League quests (Covert Repartions I – IV), in addition to the 11 delivery quests for each (+900/-500 each) and the initiation quests (+1200).
Of course, the Harvestmath 2010 has introduced a special quest for both factions in the Haunted Cellar (+900/-500 each).
October 27, 2010 at 12:43 am
BTW, you don’t have to run the Covert Reparations quests in order. I did them earlier tonight in reverse order (started in Needlehole and worked my way to Thorin’s Hall).
October 27, 2010 at 5:59 am
Thank you for the information. Ailward Chubb must only give the initiation to the chain. I just did it last week. After that it must be granted directly from the dwarf locations.

For the initiation quest. It says “Andre” above, but I see a “Andri.” I am acquaintance with AA. There is no quest ring for this guy. Do I need to be friend? There is no option for me to begin the AA pub crawl…confused.

I think the initiation quests are given by Ailward Chubb at the Party Tree (Inn League) and Bjarni in the Prancing Pony (Ale Association).

Another Update:
I discovered that completing the “Jonar’s Special Brew” quest for the Inn League, unlocks *another* quest: “Jonar’s Special Delivery”, in which you take a deluxe stink bomb back to the Party Tree (it’s a timed quest; requiring delivery within 30 minutes).
Once it’s unlocked, the quest is always available. That means there are 6 six standard Ale Association quests (plus whatever festival-specific quests are offered).
Also, the cooldown for all inn league/ale association quests seem to be 16 hrs. I’m now waiting for a cooldown so I can complete the initiation and earn kin with both factions.
I also discovered that there is no cooldown for the “Cover Reparations II” (Nogoland) Inn League quest. I think it is a bug, but I’m not going to report it (since I’ve exploited it, I think it’s not really fair to prevent others from doing so).

err…both”Jonar’s Special ” quests are for the Ale Assoc, not Inn League. I apologize for any confusion.
